The eighth Fairholme Art Exhibition opens this weekend with artists and their work on display.

Fairholme College art students Kaylah Daniel-Stafford and Kadence Wilson are looking forward to the weekend both with work on display.

Ms Daniel-Stafford said her painting represents her culture from Kowanyama in Cape York and is inspired from her namesake of lilies.

She said it was really nice to see her painting on display but was also overwhelmed by how many other paintings there were.

Watching her grandmother paint inspired her to take to the canvas from a young age, she said.

“I hope to be good as her one day,” she said.

Ms Wilson (17) has both a photograph and a graphite drawing on display and said it was amazing to see the collaboration in the exhibition.

“One of the best part of it is the days leading up to it, where everyone’s working together and where people are coming in to help pack up and set up and all the little bits and pieces that go into the exhibition,” Ms Wilson said.

The Fairholme Art Exhibition opens on Friday night and for the next weekend will fill the school with art events and an open exhibition from May 11 – 12, 2024.

The prize pool this is $15,000 and also includes a photography award in honour of the late John Sessarago, a Fairholme teacher and sports coach who sadly passed away at the start of 2024.
