Toowoomba residents will soon have a chance to dig up fossils in one of Australia’s richest areas for dinosaur and megafauna discoveries.

The Eromanga Natural History Museum will launch its annual dinosaur dig next week, with six tourists heading to the Outback with palaeontologists to help uncover Cooper, a 67-tonne animal that was one of the largest dinosaurs on record.

Scientists confirm an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs

The dig also coincides with the launch of the museum’s new $6.6m visitor reception centre, just in time for the winter tourism season.

While the latest Outback dig is sold out, there are spots available for an expedition to uncover fossils of prehistoric wombats in August.
