Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting to speak at dinner, lunch at George Banks rooftop bar in Toowoomba

Legendary Australian batsman and captain Ricky Ponting will appear at a special dinner event at Toowoomba CBD rooftop bar George Banks in the coming weeks.

Tickets are nearly sold out for an “intimate” evening with one of Australia’s greatest cricketers, who is believed to be making his first trip to Toowoomba.

Legendary batsman and captain Ricky Ponting will appear at a special dinner event at CBD rooftop bar George Banks on Thursday March 7.

Venue owner and MC on the night Phil Coorey said the $250-a-ticket experience was created after the luncheon on March 8 sold out within hours.

“He’s also doing a lunch the day after, but it sold out in 10 minutes so we thought we’d create an intimate experience,” he said.

“We’ve only got 10 tickets left for the Thursday night one.

“We’ve been trying to get him for five years now, it’s going to be a wide-ranging interview covering his career, following his days as a cricketer.”

The most successful captain in the history of international cricket, Ponting has since transitioned from playing coaching and commentating on matches for Fox Cricket.

The dinner comes just weeks after “Punter” was named coach of Major League Cricket side Washington Freedom in a bid to boost the profile of the sport in the United States.

Mr Coorey said Ponting would be a fascinating speaker.

“(On) his involvement as a TV commentator, I think he’s the best since Richie Benaud, so I’m confident I’ll present a deep wide-ranging interview,” he said.

Ponting is also touring to promote his new selection of wines, which have been created with award-winning winemaker Ben Riggs.
