From outdoor gigs to rugby league trials and studio launches, here are the top 10 things to see and do in the Toowoomba region this weekend.

1. Clydesdales trials

It will be a bumper weekend of rugby league trials in Toowoomba, with the Western Clydesdales hosting the Sunshine Coast Falcons across all six grades at Clive Berghofer Stadium from 10.30am Saturday.

The trials also include the first look at the Clydesdales’ BMD Women’s Premiership team, which includes a number of high-profile NRLW stars.

Tickets to the ground are just $5 for adults and free for children under 16, while there are also packages for Hutchies Hill.

2. Studio launch

Legendary green thumbs and veterans of the Toowoomba Chronicle’s Garden Competition Leisa and Serge Rossignol will launch their new studio Eleanor and Ruby on Saturday from 9am.

The new studio at 112 Neil St in Toowoomba City includes a variety of beautiful vintage and vintage style home and garden wares.

You can also wander through the summer garden at the back.

3. Motor club swap meet

The Darling Downs Veteran and Vintage Motor Club will hold its annual swap meet at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday and Sunday from 6am each day.

Every part of the showgrounds will be used by enthusiasts selling various parts for cars, motor bikes and machinery, as well as vendors dealing in bric-a-brac and interesting junk.

The event normally attracts about 10,000 people to Toowoomba from across southeast Queensland.

4. Summer Tunes starts – Kingsthorpe and Toowoomba

Enjoy lazy summer Sundays with an outing to Toowoomba Regional Council’s free 2024 Summer Tunes program, which kicks off this weekend.

Band Wayward will play the Kingsthorpe Memorial Hall from 4pm, while the Andrew Kucks Duo will be performing at Picnic Point in Toowoomba at the same time.

Pack a hamper and a picnic blanket to make a date with friends and family to keep the summer holiday vibes rolling.

5. Father and son camp

The Emu Gully Adventure Education Centre at Helidon Spa is hosting a special father and son camp on Saturday from 9am.

The camp by Beautiful Minds, dubbed Instant Thunder, gives dads a chance to bond with their boys aged between seven and 14.

Along with a range of fun activities, the event also showcases some valuable tools and strategies to help families.

6. Rod Shop Open Day

Rod shop Fortyone 30 Customs is hosting an open day and garage sale at its workshop at 211 James Street in Toowoomba City on Saturday from 3pm.

The business, which specialises in hot rods and chrome bumpers, will cook up snags and have drinks on offer while band the Whiskeys will be playing from 7pm.

7. Learn to Orienteer

The Range Runners Orienteering Club is giving beginners a chance to learn about the activity and its benefits, with the club describing it as an “adventure sport the whole family can enjoy”.

The courses, running every week in February, kick off at Picnic Point on Sunday from 3pm.

8. Portrait painting

Learn how to create an abstract modern portrait with artist Victoria Beths at Tinker on Saturday from 10am.

Participants will explore different techniques, materials and themes while pushing the boundaries of what a portrait can be.

The class also includes all materials you’ll need, with patrons encouraged to bring along drinks and snacks to make it a social occasion.

9. Detox Your Life

Kick off 2024 with a full introduction to detoxing and gut health through a workshop on Saturday from 10am.

The event in Newtown includes a look at yoga, reiki, meditation, smoothies, self massage, crystals, self love, healing and more.

10. Red Bull Ampol Racing launch

V8 Supercars team Red Bull Ampol Racing will launch the 2024 livery for its cars with a spectacular event at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport on Saturday from 3pm.

It is also the chance to see Toowoomba-born driver Will Brown in his new colours after signing onto the team this year.

Along with the unveiling, the launch includes an aerobatic display from Red Bull pilot Matt Hall, driver appearances, a ‘show and shine’ display, and an array of partner activations.

Best of all, the event is free to the public.
