Toowoomba rock stalwarts, Project 62, will mark the 10 year anniversary of their 2012 album Mortal with a special show at the Armitage Centre on Friday.

That year saw the band hole up in Byron Bay’s legendary Studio 301 with the late producer Anthony Lycenko, who had previously worked with Pete Murray and Busby Marou, to record the album.

The immersive experience resulted in an album that takes listeners on a journey full of twists and turns and showcasing the band’s diverse range of influences.

“Looking back, we had a lot of fun making that album,” drummer Jonathan Willis said.

“In promoting the album launch, our vocalist Jason (Lawler) made a mobile sculpture that we dubbed the ‘Mortal Chains’.

“We pushed that thing around town and it was certainly a head turner.”

The band have remained together now for 16 years and still embrace their message of connection to country and community.

More recently, in 2020, Project 62 were finalists in the Queensland Music Awards with their song Ancient Valleys and also arranged a version of Kev Carmody’s song Multuggerah about the Indigenous warrior who led the Battle of One Tree Hill during the Frontier Wars.

Project 62 will perform the Mortal in its entirety on December 2, starting at 7pm.

Tickets are available from the Empire Theatre website.
