Former Married At First Sight husband Jackson Lonie is copping backlash after he lashed out at a local Gold Coast pizza restaurant over after he took issue with his weekend dinner order.

Lonie, who ‘married’ Olivia Frazer on the show in 2022, took to Instagram to call out the team at Artie’s Woodfire Pizza on Saturday night, accusing them of ripping him off.

He said he had ordered two “large” pizzas and two sides as per one of the pizzeria’s advertised meal deals, but instead received two “small” pizzas with his delivery.

In a video posted to his Instagram story, Lonie advised his followers not to order from the small business – and tagged the Artie’s account in the post – because it was “no good” and “will rip you off”.

But Artie’s replied with its own video that showed how the $50 “deal” Lonie thought he was capitalising on was actually not valid when he ordered.

The deal he wanted – for the two large pizzas and two small pizzas for $53.90 – is “only available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday night from 5pm”. He ordered on Saturday, September 30.

“We even stated that in the description for easy reading as well,” the Artie’s video explained.

“Yet, he didn't read and placed the order … when our deal is not applied.”

The pizza restaurant claimed Lonie “didn’t even read that we have different sizes for him to choose from”, and chose the nine inch pizzas in his order, instead of the 12-inch pizzas.

“And now; he started posting on his social media to boyscott (sic.) our small business [saying] that we lied, when he was the one who cannot read,” it said.

Artie’s video, which claimed the pizzeria “got threats” on Sunday, gained hundreds of comments of support.

Lonie followed up with his own reply on Sunday, after copping a wave of criticism for coming after a small business over his own apparent mistake.

“I’m gonna have to address this because you’re all coming at me,” he told his Instagram followers in another Instagram story post.

“Now the thing is, you don’t know all the context, which is fine, you only saw what you’ll see. And I completely understand why you’d all be mad going by that context.”

He told his followers that although he “didn’t read” the deal’s ad “properly”, when he placed the order via the ad’s link, it “gave me the deal that was meant to be there”.

“That was the issue,” he said, adding that is what he tried to explain to the restaurant over the phone.

“I rang up the company and said ‘hey, look, there’s an issue there’, they said ‘oh, this deal is only on these days’.

“I said, ‘okay, but why does your link then send me to that deal and I get that deal?’

“To me, that’s not right.”

Lonie said he “got met with hostility” when he spoke to the staff, who allegedly repeatedly told him to “take it further” – “and that’s what I did,” he said.

“I don’t like slandering a small business,” Lonie concluded.

“It’s not good, it’s not what I’d want to do. But if you’re gonna push me, I’m gonna push back.”

Artie’s replied again, showing exactly “how we do it” and what ordering a pizza on a non-deal day through the link Lonie said he used on Saturday looked like.

“When the deals are not available, there will be no deal options for anyone to choose from and they are only allowed to choose the pizza organically from our menu sections,” the pizzeria’s video said.

It also shared the messages between Artie’s staff and Lonie after he posted the first video complaint, in which staff could be seen asking the MAFS alum to be understanding.

Lonie wrote the issue could be “easily fixed” and that the link should not take people to “the wrong thing if the deals not on” when “not everyone can read”.

He told the restaurant he had “no choice” but to post the story after “you egged me on to take it further”.

“My story will be staying up as I believe you were in the wrong … I never wanted it to go like this but you left me no choice as a business maybe look at rectifying the issue,” Lonie wrote.

The restaurant explained to Lonie that the ad and the link he used was for the “convenience of customers” to use when the deals are available.

Staff said the deal would not “pop up” unless it is the “stated days”, like any kind of “sale” price – the ad is there to promote the deal, but it does not automatically apply it.

“Just imaging you going on a sale frenzy. The new price it is only available on the sale day, even [though] the promotion information may run [a] few days ahead to get people (sic.) attention,” the pizzeria replied.

“You cannot expect [if] it wasn’t a sales day, you click on the products and it automatically applied the sales price for you.”

In their video, Artie’s said they were not “tech savvy” enough to “make this system smarter”, but it gave them all the information to read they need.

Staff also messaged Lonie to remind him that, like any customer, he was “the one who confirmed it” before sending the order in to be made.
