Harry Styles’ incredible act for lucky fan at Sydney show

Harry Styles performed more than just banger tracks at his Sydney concert, as one fan can now boast.

Harry Styles gave a particularly special treat to one fan in the audience of his blockbuster Sydney show last night.

Styles agreed to help Gina, a fan in the audience, find out the biological sex of her unborn baby in a very public way.

In a playful back and forth exchange, Styles responded to Gina’s sign, which said, “Can you do my gender reveal?”.

Simultaneously revving up the crowd, Styles asked Gina, “Are you ready to do this? Are you sure you want to do this? Want to pass me that tiny, tiny envelope?”

After Gina handed Styles the envelope, the musician asked Gina if she had a preference for the unborn baby’s sex – “Anything you want? Either one!”

Styles also asked Gina if she had a preference for some musical notes to accompany the stunt. “What tempo do you want, fast or mid-tempo? This is the soundtrack to your gender reveal.”

After his band struck up a little tune, Styles cheekily judged it as “a little touch too sexy for a gender reveal”.

But before he revealed the sex, Styles decided to have a little fun.

He looked inside the envelope, held it in his hand and told Gina and the crowd, “The good news is I know something you don’t know, the bad news is you’ll have to wait until the end of the show!”

He then skipped off in a mock display before turning around back to the crowd. He said, “Do you want to do it now? It was just a joke!”

Before he was done, Styles strung it a little longer, asking Gina if she already had a child at home – she did, a one-year-old named Evie – and whether her toddler had a preference.

Gina replied no, because “she’s one!”.

When Styles appeared to finally declare the sex of her soon-to-be-born second child, “It’s a girl!”, he couldn’t resist one last moment of fun, waiting a beat before asking, “Or is it a boy? You’ll have to wait until the end of the show!”.

But he relented, and declared, “It’s a girl, it is a girl!”.

With social media users capturing footage of the whole exchange, Gina’s unborn baby will one day have quite a story to share with their friends. But imagine if they ended up being a too-cool-for-pop goth kid?

Styles’ second Sydney concert closed off a successful Australian tour, his first in five years. He banged out popular hits including “Watermelon Sugar”, “As it Was” and “Sign of the Times” to adoring crowds whose impassioned screams for the British superstar sometimes tuned out the sound system.

Styles also had another surprise for the Saturday night Sydney crowd when he invited up Australian musical legend Daryl Braithwaite to join him in a rendition of earworm “Horses”.

Styles first performed a cover of “Horses” at the Perth show and did it again in Melbourne, inviting Braithwaite to take in the moment in the crowd. Having him onstage in Sydney elevated the surprising collaboration.

The former One Direction star played six shows in Australia and will next play in Auckland on Tuesday.
