Liam Payne’s haunting final words have been revealed by his girlfriend Katie Cassidy six months after his death.

The One Direction singer died in October last year at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Cassidy, 25, a social media influencer, has been candidly documenting her grief since the tragic event in various interviews.

She had been with him in Argentina until two days before his passing.

In an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Cassidy has shared the “chilling” words Payne shared final exchange.

Recalling the moment she left Buenos Aires to return to their home in Florida, Cassidy described the deeply emotional goodbye the couple had.

“I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on and on about how much I love him,” she said.

“And he laughed and interrupted me and was like: ‘Kate you’re gonna miss your flight, your car is in the driveway.’”

Payne then added, “You’re acting like this is the last time you are ever gonna see me again.”

At the time, Cassidy said she laughed, unaware of what was to come.

“But to look back in time and know that that was the last time I was ever gonna see him again is just so chilling,” she continued.

“I am so blessed that it was that heartfelt goodbye. Our last goodbye – I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any differently. I am so glad we had that beautiful time together and I wouldn’t change that.”

Last week, Cassidy shared a heartfelt tribute to the late singer in a moving TikTok video, reflecting on grief, love, and the memories they made together.

Filming herself as the sun set in front of her, Cassidy began, “I just felt the need to come on here and speak.” Sitting outside in Charleston, South Carolina, she revealed she was still struggling to come to terms with her boyfriend’s death.

“I am watching the sunset right now and I know that Liam’s here with me, but I still can’t fully wrap my head around the fact that he’s not physically here with me,” she said.

She explained that she remains in Charleston, a place that now holds deep emotional significance for her, adding, “I love the city so much and I will always have love for the city and the city will hold such a special spot in my heart for the rest of my life.”

In a poignant moment, Cassidy described the quiet pain of realising Payne will no longer be part of her future experiences.

“One thing I’ve caught myself saying so often while being here and even before being here, I catch myself saying, Liam would love this, instead of Liam would have loved this,” she said.

“Saying those words out loud in the present tense, but realising that it’s something that isn’t present and he’s not gonna be able to make these new memories with me or relive past memories with me … It’s something really, really hard to wrap my head around still.”

Fighting back emotion, Cassidy quoted a line that has been echoing in her mind, “There’s this quote that lives rent free in my mind and it says, ‘To grieve deeply is to be loved fully.’”

She added, “This resonates with me a lot, and instead of realising what I’ve lost, I realise how lucky I was to even have that in the first place and to have that love. And it’s something that will never go away.”

The previous week, Cassidy posted a video of the spot where she and Payne first met.

She shared another heartfelt clip from Charleston – the city where she once lived and worked, and where their love story began.

Cassidy revealed her friends had surprised her with a feast of McDonald’s – Payne’s favourite food – as a way of remembering him.

The grieving girlfriend revealed how she wanted this to be a “peaceful moment” rather than “sad”, as she remembered the star at the place they found love.

Cassidy previously discussed how she was finding life and dealing with the pain of such an enormous loss.

“I’m going through this healing journey, sometimes it’s hard for me to get out of bed in the morning and something I don’t want to do,” she said on ITV.

“But I have this responsibility and this obligation that I am almost in a way … I have no choice.

“I have to get out of bed (for my dog) Nala and whether it’s a five-minute walk or 20-minute walk first thing in the morning.

“Either way, it just wakes me up and refreshes my mind instead of laying in bed all day just scrolling through social media or old photos, it gets me out of bed and really, really helps my mindset and my mental health.”

In an interview with The Sun last month she revealed his death “still doesn’t feel fully real”.

She added, “Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end.

“Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”
