Liam Payne’s girlfriend said she was ‘ready to leave’ Argentina as singer stayed behind
Liam Payne’s girlfriend shared a video of her journey home to Florida just two days ago, saying she was “relieved” to leave Argentina where the singer stayed behind.
Liam Payne’s girlfriend expressed how she was “so ready to leave” Argentina in a video shared to social media just two days before the One Direction singer’s death.
US influencer Kate Cassidy, 25, who had been dating Payne, 31, since October 2022, documented her flight home to Florida after enjoying a two-week holiday with her boyfriend in Buenos Aires.
Payne was found dead in the hotel courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood around 5pm local time on Wednesday. Authorities said he fell from a balcony.
Sharing a video on TikTok earlier this week, prior to Payne’s death, Cassidy told her 180,000 followers she was “relieved” to have left the country.
Cassidy shared how the pair were only supposed to be in South America for five days before extending their trip to two weeks. At that point, Cassidy said she decided to return home while Payne remained in the city on his own.
“I was so ready to leave, honestly loved South America but I hate staying in one place for too long,” Cassidy said in a voiceover, which was set to vision of herself heading to the airport and her journey in business class.
“I was just like, I need to go home,” she added.
Cassidy went on to share her experience on-board, in which she ate steak for dinner and watched the movie Challengers.
She also said she didn’t sleep before arriving in Florida, which is around a nine-hour flight from Argentina.
“I was so happy to be home, oh my god, it was just so relieving,” Cassidy continued.
She is yet to comment on Payne’s death.
Cassidy shared a flurry of TikTok videos during their time in Argentina, including a recap of the couple’s flight journey from Florida, as well as their horse riding activities, a number of dinner dates and clips of the pair doing dance challenges.
Meanwhile, the former One Direction star was reportedly sighted acting erratically in the hotel lobby just hours before he was declared dead, with multiple sources telling TMZ emergency services were called about reports of an “aggressive” male.
The publication claims Payne smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services, confirmed the star’s death, saying he suffered “very serious injuries incompatible with life”.
An official cause of death will be determined once an autopsy is conducted.
Payne is father to a seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with UK singer Cheryl Cole.
Shortly before news of his death emerged, Payne was posting videos on the social media platform Snapchat alongside Cassidy, though they were seemingly shot prior to his girlfriend leaving.
Payne reunited with his former bandmate Niall Horan in Argentina earlier this month, where the latter performed a show on October 2.
Sharing a video to Snapchat at the time, Payne said he and his girlfriend were visiting Argentina on holiday, adding they wanted to see Horan’s concert while in the South American country.
“I think we might just go and say hello [to Horan],” Payne said in the video.
“It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We’ve got a lot to talk about. And I would like to square up a couple of things with the boy. No bad vibes or anything like that. But just, um, we need to talk.”
The singer first auditioned as a solo act for the UK reality series The X Factor in 2008.
Payne returned to audition for the franchise again in 2010, when he was paired with then-unknown UK singers Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik to form One Direction, a group that went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
The band announced its separation in 2015.
