In the days before his death, the singer received a “cease and desist” letter from his ex, before telling her mum he “wasn’t going to be around much longer”.

As more details emerge of pop star Liam Payne’s death, speculation has turned to his recent legal dramas involving his ex, who has previously accused the One Direction singer of pressuring her to have an abortion.

Payne dated his ex-fiance Maya Henry for three years before the couple split at the end of 2022.

This week, it was revealed Henry launched legal action against Payne over accusations he was “repeatedly contacting her” – despite the singer having a new girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

In a statement, a spokesman for Henry said her team had “issued a cease and desist last week” to Payne following “the emergence of new and concerning information.”

“She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter,” the spokesman said.

Henry spoke out on TikTok about the allegations and claimed that Payne had been contacting her on “multiple phone numbers and iCloud accounts”.

“Ever since we broke up he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone number. It’s always from different phone numbers,” Henry shared in her video.

“He’ll create new iCloud accounts to message me – it’s always a new damn iCloud account. Every time I see one pop up on my phone I’m like, “here we f***ing go again.

“Also, he will email me. Not only me, but he’ll blow up my mom’s phone. Is this normal behaviour to you?”

Earlier this week, Henry also spoke on The internet Is Dead podcast.

In what is now an eerie listen, she spoke about how Payne told her mum he “wasn’t going to be around much longer”.

“He would always message me ever since we broke up like ‘oh I’m not well, he would always play with death’,” she said.

“He would say ‘I’m going to die I’m not doing well’. There was one time I tried to get him help and then he was not taking it.

“He would text my mum saying ‘I’m not doing well. Have Maya contact me’ because I wouldn’t respond. He called my mum saying ‘I’m not going to be around much longer’.”

Henry also said his friends warned her not to put out her book in May.

The book is called Looking Forward and talks about her life, in which she opens up about her traumatic abortion experience.

She later told People Magazine: “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have done it. But then also, if I were to have made a different decision, then I would’ve lost the person that I loved.”

Speaking about the book release, Henry recalled on the podcast one of Payne’s friends calling her and warning: “This isn’t a good time for him.”

“[He said] I don’t think you should put the book out. He’s not doing well,” she recalled.

“[He said] If something happens to him, not only will you blame yourself the whole world will blame you.”

It was also revealed last week that Payne had parted ways with his management and had halted plans to release a second solo album.

Payne’s former relationships

Payne had a tumultuous dating history throughout his career since his X-Factor appearance with One Direction in 2010.

His former major relationship was with dancer Danielle Peazer who he met on the show. The pair broke up in 2013 after a two-year relationship, however, remained friendly afterwards.

He then went on to date childhood friend Sophia Smith, but split with her in 2015 due to career pressures.

It was after that relationship that Payne ended up dating X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole, who was ten years his senior.

The pair were married and had a son together Bear before they broke up in June 2018.

“It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family,” Payne wrote in a statement at the time.

“Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

Payne began dating Henry in 2019 before the breakup of their engagement in 2022. Payne was accused of cheating throughout their relationship, which he denied.

Shortly after his breakup from Henry, Payne was spotted arm-in-arm with model Aliana Mawla. In a statement, Mawla said the pair did not together while he was still engaged.

“Under no circumstances would Aliana have involved herself in a public relationship as such if there was any truth to the comments that have been made,” a statement from her rep told media in a statement at the time.

Since then, Payne had been dating influencer Kate Cassidy.

Cassidy was with him in Argentina just days before he was killed after falling from a hotel balcony.

Sharing a video on TikTok earlier this week, prior to Payne’s death, Cassidy told her 180,000 followers she was “relieved” to have left the country.

Cassidy shared how the pair were only supposed to be in South America for five days before extending their trip to two weeks. At that point, Cassidy said she decided to return home while Payne remained in the city on his own.

“I was so ready to leave, honestly loved South America but I hate staying in one place for too long,” Cassidy said in a voiceover, which was set to vision of herself heading to the airport and her journey in business class.

“I was just like, I need to go home,” she added.
