Meghan Markle decided to return to America after failing to become the main star of the British Royal Family, it has been claimed.
The former actress turned her back on the UK forever and persuaded her husband Prince Harry to build a life on the other side of the Atlantic after failing to become the main attraction, former Sun royal reporter Charles Rae said.
“I’m of the opinion that Megan won’t set foot in the UK ever again,” he said.
“I just don’t think she wants her to have anything to do at all with this country,” he told the British newspaper.
“If you saw her with Harry on some of those walkabouts that they did and some of those early jobs before the wedding the people were thronging the streets,” he said.
“It was all joy because they were seeing the new young couple as the new future for the monarchy.
“Meghan was the one who decided she didn’t want to be on this road,” he said.
He said the mother of two’s failure was her inability to accept the hierarchy of the Royal Family and her place within it.
“You’ve got the monarch, you’ve got the Prince of Wales, and then you’ve got everyone else under that, she wanted to be the star and it was that simple that she thought she just picked up her toys and decided to go off to America,” Mr Rae added.
The former royal expert said the duchess’s crime was to “deprive” Prince William of a close relationship with his younger brother, who now lives 8000km away in Montecito, California, with the duchess and their two children.
It was their late mother Princess Diana’s wish for the two princes to remain close.
“When William becomes King, I always believed Harry would be one of his top advisers … I think that’s out of the window,” Mr Rae said.
The brothers have endured a fractious relationship since September 2018 when the exiled prince fell out with Prince William accusing him of not doing enough to integrate his then fiancee Meghan.
The rift was further widened when Meghan fell out with Princess Catherine, telling Oprah Winfrey in an interview in 2021 that despite initial reports she had made Kate cry during a phone call by telling her she had “baby brain” (the princess had just given birth to Prince Louis), – it was in fact the princess who made her cry with a text her about a “problem” with her daughter Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress.
In Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare, the Sussex’s admitted they were jealous that their marital home in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage, was kitted out in cheap Ikea furnishings, while the Wales’s Kensington Palace was adorned with expensive wood bookshelves, art and antiques.
The Duke of Sussex visited his father at Clarence House in February to personally hug his father and to let him know he loved him.
It was the first time the King and his youngest son had seen each other since the release of Harry’s scathing tell-all autobiography in January 2023 but Harry flew back to the US without reuniting with his brother.
In 2019 Harry and William parted ways from the Royal Foundation they jointly set up in 2009 when they agreed to focus on their personal interests.
