Johnny Depp has reportedly signed the most lucrative men’s fragrance deal in history.
The US actor, 59, has extended his long-running partnership with French fashion house Dior, inking a three-year contract worth more than $30 million.
Depp first signed on as the face of Dior’s cologne Sauvage in 2015 – in what marked the brand’s first fragrance in 10 years – with the fashion and cosmetics giant sticking by him in recent years despite ongoing fallout over his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard.
The deal makes Depp the most bankable male star in the realm of fragrance deals, eclipsing Robert Pattinson’s $18 million contract to serve as a spokesperson for Dior Homme and Brad Pitt’s $10.54 million deal as the face of Chanel No. 5.
A source told Variety that most celebrities make around $3 million – $6 million per year for fragrance pacts.
During Depp’s televised, five-week defamation trial against Heard in a Virginia court last year, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor won over a jury who ruled largely in his favour, after both parties claimed they suffered physical and emotional abuse throughout their two-year marriage.
As the trial played out, Dior refused to drop Depp as the face of Sauvage, with many reports suggesting sales had actually boosted during the highly-publicised court battle.
A Mail on Sunday article published in the midst of the trial quoted a source saying Dior was experiencing higher sales than usual on its fragrances.
“Sales are up and Dior has no plans to quit,” the source said. “Many fans are going out to buy the new cologne to show their support.”
It comes amid reports Heard, 37, has stepped away from Hollywood after moving to Madrid, Spain, some time this year.
The Aquaman actress was spotted in the city for the first time this week, having relocated from the US with her two-year-old daughter Oonagh Page.
Heard is reprising her role as Mera in the upcoming Warner Bros sequel, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, which will hit theatres in December.
It’s widely understood she has quit acting, with one other ongoing film credit under her belt, In The Fire, which was shot prior to the defamation trial and doesn’t yet have a release date.
