Toni Collette shares savage posts about ex on Valentine’s Day

Toni Collette has taken to Instagram on Valentine’s Day to share scathing posts about love and cockroaches, hinting at her ex-husband.

Aussie actress Toni Collette has shared a cryptic post on social media about love and cockroaches on Valentine’s Day, leaving fans to speculate.

The Muriel’s Wedding star, 51, took to Instagram to mark the romantic day with a series of messages for her followers, including an unusual post about naming a cockroach after your ex, thanks to a Texas Zoo initiative.

“Zoo lets you name a cockroach after your ex and feed it to an animal on Valentine’s Day,” Collette re-shared to her story.

According to its website, the San Antonio Zoo has launched a ‘Cry me a Cockroach’ fundraiser which allows visitors to name a cockroach, vegetable, or rat after their ex and have it fed to animals.

Customers are invited to donate $US5 (approx. AU$7.70) to name a vegetable, $US10 (approx. AU$15.40) for a cockroach, or US$25 (AU$38.50) for a rodent, for a very satisfying cause.

Although later posts dialled down on the diss, the messages seemed to hint at Collette’s ex-husband, Gelbison drummer David Galafassi.

It comes after the couple announced their divorce in 2022 following 19 years of marriage and two children together.

After Collette’s veiled Valentine’s Day jab, the star moved on to messages about self-love and the “real love story” to her thousands of followers.

“The real love story was always you and you,” the inspirational post began.

“It was how you walked alone and learned what you needed to carry. It was how you began to see through your own eyes, and not someone else’s.”

This isn’t the first time the Academy Award-nominated actress has taken to social media to address the public split.

In 2023, Collette similarly shared a poem by US poet Tonya Ingram about experiences of hurt and letting go.

“You owe it to yourself to quit being the apology,” the poem read.

“To hold your hand and sing your favourite song. to love another and see how far that will go.”

The famous Aussie couple had been together since 2003 when their shock divorce was announced.

In a joint statement the former partners said their two children, Sage and Arlo, were of “paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape”.

They added: “We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other.”
