THE dress actress Tiffany Haddish wore on stage at the Oscars has been seen before — several times. She has a very good reason for it.

ACTORS Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph provided one highlight of today’s Oscars ceremony with their hilarious presenting stint, taking to the stage with their shoes in hand and riffing brilliantly on Hollywood’s racism problem and giving Meryl Streep an adorable shout-out.
But amid their rapid-fire jokes, eagle-eyed fans of Girls Trip star Haddish, 38, also noticed one brilliant detail about her Oscars look.
The dress the actress wore on stage has been seen before — more than once. She originally wore the white, halter-necked Alexander McQueen frock to the premiere of Girls Trip last July:
Four months later, Haddish wore the exact same dress to host an episode of Saturday Night Live:
She explained her reasoning during her SNL opening monologue.
“Like this dress?” she asked. “I wore it on the red carpet for Girls Trip and my whole team, they told me, ‘Tiffany, you cannot wear that dress on SNL. You already wore it. It’s taboo to wear it twice,’ and I said, ‘I don’t give a dang about no taboo.’”

Oscars ceremony: Winners, losers and best moments
“I spent a lot of money on this dress!” she continued. “This dress cost way more than my mortgage … this is an Alexander McQueen, okay? It’s a $4000 dress. I’m [going to] wear this dress multiple times! Real talk. You might see this dress in two sketches tonight, okay?”
Sure enough, later in the SNL episode Haddish turned up in a sketch — dressed in her prized Alexander McQueen frock.
The star said that she intended to re-wear the dress to any future bat mitzvah, wedding or even a party with an all-black dress code.
Turns out, we can also add ‘Academy Awards’ to that list.
Earlier today, walking the Oscars red carpet before the ceremony kicked off, Haddish did debut a new dress — one inspired by her late father, who was from Eritrea, Africa.
She told E! host Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that her father had told her: “‘One day you’re going to end up at the Oscars and when you go, you have to honour your people.’ So I’m wearing an Eritrean, authentic princess dress. And I’m PROUD of it.”
