Best and worst dressed on the Oscars red carpet
LOVE it or hate it? Nicole Kidman’s bowed, bold blue dress was one of the biggest surprises on the Oscars red carpet.
THE stars have walked the red carpet at today’s Academy Awards, with Aussie Margot Robbie and Lupita Nyong’o among the fashion standouts of the evening.
First, to perhaps the most controversial dress of the night, Aussie Nicole Kidman’s bold, blue bowed frock. Fashion commentators were divided - we LOVE it (Our Nicole can do no wrong, tbh).
Lupita Nyong'o is another clear Best Dressed contender, looking like an Oscar herself:
Actress Blanca Blanco, who wore easily the most revealing dress at the Golden Globes earlier this year and suffered a wardrobe malfunction at last year’s Oscars, again flashed the flesh with this plunging neckline:
Best Actress nominee Margot Robbie looks effortlessly glam on what could be the biggest night of her career:
And her I, Tonya co-star, Best Supporting Actress favourite Allison Janney wraps up her award season dream run in style:
Indie singer St. Vincent, who will appear on stage performing Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name song Mystery of Love with Sufjan Stevens, brought art-rock quirk to the red carpet:
Emma Stone’s pants n’ blazer combo was perhaps a touch too casual for the Oscars red carpet:
US talk show host Kelly Ripa appears to have come dressed as a licorice allsort:
Hollywood legend Rita Moreno, 86, wore a dress that may be familiar to Oscars-watchers with very long memories...
That’s because it’s the same dress she wore to the ceremony way back in 1962:

Grace and Frankie star Jane Fonda, 80, is looking typically ageless:
Also in white - Laura Dern, still revelling in the Dern-aissance of the past 12 months:
More white: Queen of hip-hop soul, now Oscar-nominated actress, the incredible Mary J Blige:
Salma Hayek, on the other hand, appeared to channel those dolls your grandma used to put over the top of the toilet roll:
We love singer Andra Day’s confidence - it’s just her poufy, froufy dress we’re not so sure about:
US Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon showed men’s fashion doesn’t have to be boring, wearing a harness under his tux:
Actors Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino, both outspoken members of the Time’s Up movement having gone public with their own allegations of misconduct by disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, put on a united front on the red carpet:
Jennifer Lawrence might be taking a year off acting, but she’s going out with a bang in this gorgeous metallic number:
Get Out actress Betty Gabriel rocked a plunging neckline in emerald green:
Fellow Get Out star Allison Williams oozed Old Hollywood glamour:
Aussie actress Abbie Cornish, who stars in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, went for a similarly soft look:
We're sensing a theme here - it's Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss, in yet more sparkle-hued neutral tones:
Taraji P. Henson put her best foot forward:
Viola Davis is pretty in pink:
Also rocking pink, Best Actress nominee (for her sterling work in Lady Bird) Saoirse Ronan:
