A high school in the Toowoomba region will have part of its library converted into a special flexispace by the State Government.
A tender has been released by the Department of Education for the creation of the flexible learning area at Oakey Stat High School.
A department spokesman said the conversion was estimated to cost $200,000.
“Flexispaces provide a high-quality flexible learning environment within mainstream high schools to engage and retain students who are at risk of disengaging,” he said.
“A total of $16.6 million is being invested to deliver flexispaces in up to 52 Queensland state schools by 2022.
“Each school delivering a flexispace also receives a one-off allocation of $110,000 to assist with establishing the program.
“There are currently 32 Queensland schools delivering, or in the stages of planning — one of these is Oakey State High School.”
The department said the funding would cover a variety of works to create the flexispace.
“The program at Oakey SHS will be delivered in a refurbished area within the school’s existing library,” the spokesman said.
“This area was previously used as multifunctional, flexible learning areas for students.
“Works will include the refurbishment of internal spaces, the installation of large sliding doors, joinery and flexible furniture along with the construction of office spaces and meeting rooms.
“The project budget for the transformation of the library to deliver the FlexiSpace is $200,000.”
