The Toowoomba business community’s night of nights is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Already a key event in The Garden City’s calendar, this year’s Toowoomba Chamber Business Excellence Awards will expand to include two new awards in 2021.
As a result of feedback from last year’s awards, the Toowoomba Chamber board has decided to introduce the Sole Trader of the Year and Micro-Business of the Year awards.
President Harrison Humphries said: “The new Awards will specifically recognise the outstanding achievements of sole traders and micro business operators in the region.”
“A number of sole traders and micro businesses were nominated, applied and were finalists in
2020.
“Those sole traders and micro businesses who apply in a category such as retail or industry in
2021 will now be eligible for these two new awards.
“The chamber board understands the importance of recognising these businesses because in
Australia, 62% of all businesses are sole traders and 27% are considered microbusinesses, that is a company with one to four employees.
“It just makes sense to create these new awards, which will provide a platform to specifically
acknowledge the significant role these businesses play in our economy and community.”
The Business Excellence Awards are a tradition where the diversity and dedication of Toowoomba’s business community is showcased, local business achievement is celebrated, business best practice is promoted, and the significant contribution that business makes to the region is recognised.
