Toowoomba CBD cafe Pony Espresso listed for sale as owners shut doors

Loyal customers have expressed their sadness at the closure of a Toowoomba CBD cafe, with the owners putting the business up for sale.

Pony Espresso on the intersection of Bowen and Neil Sts in Toowoomba City has hit the market.

A Toowoomba CBD cafe has shut its doors to the public, after its owners put the business on the market this week.

Pony Espresso, on the intersection of Neil and Bowen Sts, has been listed for sale by the owners Glen and Pam Hoey for $29,000.

“Located in the busy Toowoomba CBD, this Espresso Bar sits 30 people inside the cafe area and 16 outside,” Mr Hoey wrote in the listing on social media.

“The cafe has potential to double the seating both inside and out.

“This cafe is in a great location with easterly views over rejuvenated parklands, with lots of foot traffic as well as 3000 cars passing each day.

“A Melbourne urban cafe style fit-out gives a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.”

It comes a week after the couple announced the cafe would be closed permanently, citing customer numbers as a reason for shutting the doors.

Pony Espresso on the intersection of Bowen and Neil Sts in Toowoomba City has hit the market.

“Unfortunately our little cafe didn’t reach the attention of enough people over the past five years we’ve been open so we have made the hard decision to close our doors,” the post said.

“We want to thank all our loyal customers, a lot who have become friends, we are certainly going to miss you all.”

The post created an outpouring of sadness from its regulars, who praised the cafe’s service and food.

“(I) will miss going to the Pony – for the beautiful food and surrounds, as well as the genuine warmth and care of Glen, Pam and Ella,” Janelle Dickson wrote.
