‘Razor blade’: Top doctor Brett Sutton catches Covid

One of Australia’s top doctors is in isolation after catching Covid and has thanked science for vaccinations.

Victorian chief health officer Brett Sutton is in isolation after contracting Covid-19.

Professor Sutton revealed on Friday that he was feeling quite sick and couldn’t imagine the experience without vaccinations.

“Feeling pretty rubbish, tbh. Razor blade throat and painful cough,” he posted on Twitter.

“Clearly not the same for everyone. Can’t imagine how it might have been – for me – without three doses of vax.

“Good on science.”

Professor Sutton became popular with many Victorians throughout the pandemic as he provided Covid updates and advice.

Victoria reported another 18 Covid-positive people had died on Friday, with 491 people hospitalised with the virus.

The state recorded 13,181 new cases, taking the total number of active cases in Victoria to 73,727.

Daily case rates in Victoria have hovered around 10,000 a day for most of this month.

“We thank everyone who got vaccinated and tested yesterday,” the Victorian Health Department said.

“Our thoughts are with those in hospital and the families of people who have lost their lives.”
