Former Socceroo Terry Antonis’ troubled second stint at Western Sydney has come to an end, with the Wanderers parting ways with the A-League championship-winning midfielder despite him having a year remaining on his contract.

Antonis, 29, was not used at all by Wanderers coach Marko Rudan during the club’s 2022-23 season and was reportedly prevented from training with the first-team squad.

He had rejoined the club in July 2021 after a previous Wanderers spell in 2017 when he was on loan from Greek club PAOK.

Overall, Antonis made 36 appearances and scored four goals in all competitions for Western Sydney.

In a short statement, the Wanderers wished Antonis “the best for his future endeavours” following the mutual termination of his deal.

Antonis’ agent Buddy Farah said his client – who was a member of Australia’s 2015 Asian Cup-winning squad – was “relieved” to have left Western Sydney.

“He’s keen to get playing again,” Farah said.

The Wanderers, who finished fourth on the A-League ladder before being knocked out in the first week of the finals by arch rivals Sydney FC, have also confirmed the departures of foreign trio Morgan Schneiderlin, Romain Amalfitano and Yeni Ngbakoto.

Former Manchester United midfielder Schneiderlin, who had been on loan at the club from French side Nice, made 12 appearances for the Wanderers after arriving in January.

His fellow Frenchmen Amalfitano and Ngbakoto each spent one season at Western Sydney, making 25 and 19 appearances respectively.

In other A-League news, Brisbane Roar has re-signed Jez Lofthouse and Louis Zabala.

“Another season at the club will be very good and I think it’s a year that I’m looking to break out,” attacking weapon Lofthouse said.

“I’d like to contribute to a few more goals and grab some more assists.”

The versatile Zebala was hopeful of securing more game time next season.

“I just want to play as many minutes as possible and help the team as much as I can to get back to winning ways,” Zebala said.
