Man, 48, charged for pointing laser multiple times at SA Police helicopter

Police in the air and on the ground worked together to locate a man allegedly shining a laser in the direction of the helicopter.

An Adelaide man who allegedly pointed a laser at a SA Police helicopter was later found with the device in his hands, police have said.

Polair was flying over Woodcroft, south of the CBD, about 10.30pm on Friday night when police say the laser was pointed several times.

Officers on-board the helicopter worked out where the light had come from and directed police on the ground to attend.

When they arrived, a 48-year-old Woodcroft man was allegedly located holding the laser pointer in his hands.

He was arrested and charged with prejudicing the safe operation of an aircraft, acts likely to cause harm and possessing a prohibited weapon.

The man was bailed to appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court next month.

Under state law, it is illegal for a person to prejudice the safe operation of an aircraft, and penalties of up to 14 years imprisonment can apply.
