The Duke of Sussex stayed with Princess Diana’s brother at the Spencer family home when he returned to the UK last week, it has been reported.

Prince Harry, 39, was hosted by his uncle, Earl Spencer, at the Althorp Estate when he was in Britain for the memorial service of another uncle, Lord Fellowes.

Fellowes was married to Diana’s elder sister, Jane. His service was held in Norfolk on Thursday.

While the Prince of Wales also attended the service, it is understood that Harry and William did not speak to each other during the duke’s visit from Montecito, California, where he lives with the Duchess of Sussex and their two children.

Harry has, however, stayed in touch with his mother’s side of the family, staying with her brother at the stately home where Diana spent her childhood, People magazine reported.

Saturday marked the 27th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, on August 31, 1997. She was buried on a small island in the centre of the Oval Lake at Althorp.

On the anniversary of his sister’s death, Spencer posted a tribute to his late sister on Instagram featuring old newspaper cuttings of Diana’s christening.

Harry visited the UK in February to see his father after the King’s cancer diagnosis.

The duke returned again in May to attend a service at St Paul’s cathedral to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, the Paralympics-style competition founded by Harry for wounded military personnel. While his Spencer relatives were present at the service, it was not attended by any members of the royal family, nor did Harry meet his father or brother during that visit.

At the time, a spokesman for the duke said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

While Harry’s aide had described it as “unfortunate”, The Times later revealed that the King had extended an invitation to Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace during his London trip. The duke, however, declined and chose instead to stay in a hotel.
