‘No talks to clear the air for Prince Harry’
The Duke of Sussex is unlikely to have the long-awaited conversation with his family to settle their differences before returning to the US.
The Duke of Sussex is unlikely to have the long-awaited conversation with his family to settle their differences before returning to the US, a royal author said.
Relations between Prince Harry and the Duke of Cambridge appeared to have temporarily improved when the brothers were seen speaking after the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh.
However, the damage caused by the interview Harry and his wife Meghan gave to Oprah Winfrey is so deep that many believe a serious conversation is needed to discuss their allegations. A Buckingham Palace statement had said “while some recollections may vary” the issues would be “addressed by the family privately”.
While Harry may be keen to return to California, where his wife is expecting their second baby, there have also been reports he might stay until the Queen’s 95th birthday on Wednesday.
Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed, said any kind of family summit was unlikely this week. “His grandmother will not be in the mood for it,” she said. “She hates confrontation. The children have much difficulty getting the Queen to discuss anything other than dogs or horses.
“I remember Fergie telling me it took three weeks for them to try and get her to discuss their divorce. She kept saying ‘Oh, I’ve got to take the dogs for a walk’.”
After the funeral the brothers walked together for a while. It is not known whether Harry, who has a strained relationship with his father, the Prince of Wales, has spoken to him since returning. He had said his father and brother were “trapped” in their roles, and said Charles had refused to take his calls.
