Donald Trump threatens to prosecute Joe Biden, use troops to round up migrants

Donald Trump has vowed to appoint a ‘real special prosecutor’ to investigate the president, who he says is at centre of a ‘crime family’.

Donald Trump has threatened to prosecute President Joe Biden “for all his crimes” if he wins a second term, and use the army to deport more than 11 million illegal migrants.

The former president vowed to appoint a “real special prosecutor” to investigate Mr Biden, linking legal action to how the Supreme Court rules on Mr Trump’s liability for acts committed in office, and suggested sacking US lawyers who refuse to prosecute when he orders them to.

“If they said that a president doesn’t get immunity, then Biden, I am sure, will be prosecuted for all of his crimes,” Mr Trump told Time magazine.

Mr Trump has accused Mr Biden, 81, of being at the centre of a “crime family” and of orchestrating the four criminal actions he faces.

The President has not been charged with any crimes.

A special prosecutor investigating his retention of secret documents after he left the vice-presidency decided not to bring charges.

One of Mr Trump’s cases involves him keeping classified government papers after leaving the White House.

Mr Trump also suggested that he may pursue district attorneys in New York and Georgia who have levelled dozens of criminal charges against him.

Having placed border security at the centre of his campaign, Mr Trump raised the prospect of deploying the US army to assist in carrying out the biggest deportation of illegal migrants.

“We’re not leaving them in the country, we’re bringing them out,” he said, refusing to rule out building detention camps to assist with expulsions.

“I think the National Guard would be able to do that. If they weren’t able to, then I’d use the military.”

Opponents fear Mr Trump would try to use a second term to defy the constitution and remain in office for four more years after 2028. Asked if he would challenge the 22nd Amendment to the US constitution, which imposes a two-term limit, Mr Trump said: “I had two elections. I did much better on the second one than I did the first. I got millions more votes. I was treated very unfairly. They used Covid … and lots of other things to cheat.

“But no, I’m going to serve one term, I’m gonna do a great job. We’re gonna have a very successful country again.”

On abortion, Mr Trump repeated his stance that he would leave the issue for the individual US states to decide whether to prosecute those who violated bans on the procedure.

Mr Trump has claimed credit after the conservative US Supreme Court featuring three Trump-appointed judges overturned the federal right to abortion in 2022, prompting several Republican-led states to introduce full or partial bans.

Asked whether states should monitor women’s pregnancies to see if they have had abortions in defiance of a ban, Mr Trump replied: “I think they might do that.”
