Donald Trump rages at Christmas of calamities

The former president has been battered by headlines about his legal woes since announcing last month he would run again.

Donald Trump told voters during the Christmas weekend to trust his “brilliant, clairvoyant” abilities and questioned President Joe Biden’s faculties as a “mentally disabled Democrat”.

The former president, who faces mounting legal troubles and is attempting to revive his campaign to take back the White House, launched a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, railing against the criminal investigations against him. “Merry Christmas to EVERYONE, including the Radical Left Marxists that are trying to destroy our Country,” he posted as his opening salvo on Christmas Eve.

He then claimed that the FBI was at the heart of a conspiracy to bully the media to campaign for Mr Biden, a “mentally disabled Democrat over the Brilliant, Clairvoyant, and USA LOVING Donald J. Trump”.

The Christmas holiday came after the house committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol last year recommended criminal charges against the former president on four counts, including insurrection, for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election and for his hand in inciting the riot. On Thursday, the committee issued the final report in its 18-month investigation, placing Mr Trump at the heart of a “multi-part conspiracy” to subvert US democracy and cling to power.

Since announcing last month he was running for the White House again, he has struggled to gain momentum. None of his anticipated rivals for the Republican nomination has shown their hands, leaving him as the sole candidate, battered by headlines about his legal woes.
