Christopher Geidt, Boris Johnson’s ethics adviser, has decided to stay in the post despite a furious confrontation with the Prime Minister over the parties scandal.
On Wednesday, Lord Geidt threatened to resign after the Prime Minister failed to provide an explanation as to why his fixed penalty notice did not represent a breach of the ministerial code – potentially a resigning matter.
Mr Johnson subsequently wrote to Lord Geidt arguing that his breach of coronavirus rules was “unwitting”. A government source said: “The Prime Minister had no idea that Geidt was stewing. He explained … and Geidt accepted the explanation.”
