Donald Trump vowed to cut funding to cities deemed “anarchist jurisdictions” as he urged postal voters to turn up in person on November 3 to ensure that their ballot was counted.
The US President signed a memo threatening to ban federal funding to cities such as Portland, Seattle, New York and Washington — all in Democrat-controlled states. “My administration will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” the memo said. “It is imperative that the federal government review the use of federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction.” Money could be cut from transportation projects, housing aid and law enforcement grants.
Mr Trump was accused of putting people at risk of prosecution after telling a North Carolina television station that people should try to vote twice to test the system. He has repeatedly raised fears that the election will be beset with fraud.
