Inbar Liberman hailed a hero for saving her kibbutz Nir Am from Hamas terrorists
As Hamas militants invaded her kibbutz, Inbal Liberman ignored warnings from other commanders and swung into action, leaving 25 terrorists dead.
This is the new heroine of Israel.
Inbar Liberman’s quick thinking during the most critical time of the Hamas terrorist invasion on Saturday meant her kibbutz Nir Am was the only one close to the Gaza border to survive unscathed.
Her actions are credited with saving the lives of dozens, perhaps more, of her villagers.
When 1000 terrorists crossed the border from Gaza, twenty five year old Liberman immediately understood the sounds of the explosions were different to previous attacks and gathered the kibbutz civilians who doubled as the security team, armed them with weapons from a storage shed and stationed them around the kibbutz in a prearranged and practised plan.
She ignored suggestions from other kibbutz commanders to be on standby and instead got her team ready for operational duties.
This meant the team was in place just minutes later to kill two terrorists and injure a third who tried to enter the kibbutz, which is just a kilometre from the Gaza perimeter fence, through a nearby chicken farm.
Liberman’s team then had fire fights with scores of terrorists, and her team’s resistance scared off others. No one was injured at the kibbutz but 25 Hamas militants were killed.
Ilit Paz, a citizen at Nir Am told Israel Hayom that her work was “amazing”.
Mrs Paz said: “My husband was part of the unit that worked to prevent more casualties, they heard the shots and made contact on their own with other members of the unit and with Inbar. But Inbar quickly decided not to wait and she jumped into action operationally: the fact they did it early prevented dozens of casualties.”
Shir Tabac tweeted: “She is the reason my best friend, her family and the entire members of the Kibbutz are alive.
“Inbal quickly realised what was going on at the beginning of the surprise attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists.
“Under her command, the civilians in the Kibbutz fought the attackers, killed 25 of them, and prevented any terrorist from penetrating the kibbutz.
“She is a true leader who used skill and thoroughness to prevent a terrible outcome like we have seen all across the border.”
Liberman relocated after the attack to Tel Aviv and was honoured for her work by the local mayor. She has refused interviews, wanting the credit for fending off the attackers to be attributed to her team. In the only comments she has made, Liberman told Haaretz: “‘I’m not a hero, I wasn’t there all by myself”.
