Coronavirus: Beatrice cancels wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is on hold until the pandemic in both the UK and Italy is under control.
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have cancelled their wedding because of the extended coronavirus lockdown in the United Kingdom.
The wedding, originally scheduled for May 29, had already been postponed once.
Beatrice, 31, and Edo, 37 were due to tie the knot at St. James’s Palace in London and then hold a small reception in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.
But the wedding has been put on hold indefinitely until the coronavirus pandemic in both the UK and in Italy, Edo’s home country, is under control.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding. They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange but that’s not yet.”
The Queen had already confirmed she would not host the Buckingham Palace reception, just before lockdown measures were put in place last month.
A particularly concern for the Royal family is the health of the Queen, who turns 94 later this month and that of 98 year old Prince Philip. Both are in isolation in Windsor Castle with a small number of trusted staff to minimise their exposure to coronavirus.
Beatrice, ninth in line to the throne, became engaged to Edo in September last year, but their wedding plans were immediately thrown into chaos because of the scandal surrounding her father Prince Andrew and his friendship with the disgraced pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
When Beatrice eventually marries Edo, she will inherit a title of Contessa from Edo’s father Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi.
For now the couple are spending lockdown at Edo’s west London home.
