Alwen Hughes, the devoted wife of Australian pedophile entertainer Rolf Harris has died of a stroke aged 93.
Ms Hughes passed away 15 months after Harris, her husband for 65 years, had died of throat cancer at their Thames riverside home in 2023.
Ms Hughes had steadfastly stood by Harris who was sentenced to more than five years’ jail for 12 counts of sexual abuse of four children, one who was aged seven.
During his first trial in 2014, Ms Hughes, who was frail at the time, would attend each day wearing colourful outfits to support her husband.
Their daughter, Bindi, who the court heard stands to inherit most of the Harris estate, would also attend most days. However the extensive court trial and appeal, and the rapidly declining value of much of Harris’s art work, has impacted on the value of the family assets, although the family home, which has direct river access in a prime address in Bray, outside of the British capital, is worth many millions.
Ms Hughes had suffered from dementia but lived at the home until her death last month.
