WHAT IS IT? A godsend for anyone who has no idea how to look after their house plants. It’s a sensor system that “literally gives your plants a voice”, Willow says.

WHAT COULD THEY POSSIBLY WANT TO SAY? APART FROM, I’M BORED? It’s more about basic needs. The sensor, which goes in your plant pot, monitors the soil moisture, light, temperature and humidity
– and alerts you when action is required.

WHY NOT JUST STICK A FINGER IN THE SOIL? Because this is 2024, grandad. The sensor (or sensors: you can deploy up to 40, if your home is like a jungle) connects to the Willow app on your phone via a piece of hardware called the hub. The app, which uses image recognition to identify your plant species, analyses the data and tells you exactly what your plant needs. It also uses a score system, so at a glance you “know how your plant is feeling”.

LET ME GUESS. STILL BORED, BUT ENJOYING ALL THE ATTENTION? Maybe. But with tutorials and care instructions for hundreds of species in the app’s database, you’ll have green thumbs in no time.
