If you ever saw Carla Zampatti out and about at the opera, perhaps, or the ballet or any number of fashion shows, she would invariably be wearing her own designs. “Show your belief in your product by wearing it every day,’’ she’d urge daughter Bianca. “React to how you feel in it, and learn from that.”

Carla Zampatti the designer embodied Carla Zampatti the label, and in the aftermath of her shock death earlier this year it seemed impossible to imagine the brand living on without her. But that would underestimate the business-savvy matriarch and the dedication of her children, who started working in the business at a young age.
