What is it?

A set of three walkie-talkies, designed for adventures in places with no mobile phone coverage.

Vital statistics: They’re rugged, compact units that fit in the palm of your hand. They use the UHF radio band, with a claimed range of 3km (though they work by line of sight, so obstacles – mountains, thick forest etc – will affect this).

First impressions: They’re stylish (the lime, red and blue colours are a nice touch) and pretty easy to use. Each one is powered by three AAAs; that’s a lot of batteries.

Who are they for? Hikers, bikers and skiers. Especially skiers. It’s so easy to lose your mates on the piste! Imagine being able to whip out one of these and announce, “I’m next to a tree, surrounded by snow. Over.” That sort of thing.
