The Korg Cliphit takes the beat wherever you want

IT’S a device that turns everyday objects into a drum kit. But how on earth does it work?

WHAT is it?

A device that turns everyday objects into a drum kit. It’s a console/speaker, attached to three sensors on wires; clip the sensors on whatever takes your fancy — your desk, a mug and a book, say — and you’re ready to rock.

How does it work? Each sensor picks up the vibration in the struck object, and relays it as a drum sound; you can program each one as a snare, high-hat, tom-tom or cymbal. You strike with your hands, a couple of pens, whatever.

Who’s it for? Anyone who turns into Keith Moon the moment they’re presented with chopsticks. Every family has one.

Verdict: This is no novelty item — the sound is decent — but there’s plenty of comedy potential. Clip a sensor to your dog and play a bossa nova on his noggin. He’ll love you for it.
