Speks: the “world’s most addictive fidget toy”

It’s touted as “the world’s most addictive fidget toy”. But what are you supposed to do with this set of 512 tiny magnetic balls?

WHAT IS IT? A set of 512 magnetic balls – each one 2.5mm across, and made of rare earth neodymium – comprising what Speks calls “the world’s most addictive fidget toy”.

HOW SO? The magnetism of the tiny balls means they can be squished together en masse in the hand, like putty – or used to create all sorts of objects.

GO ON... If you gently tug at the mass of balls you can pull off a string of them, and with a little dexterity manipulate that string into a flat mat, or a simple tube. Persevere with the skills, and different techniques, and complex shapes are possible.

SUCH AS? A pyramid, cube, or geodesic ball made out of interlocking hexagons. You’ll find tutorials online with tips and tricks for these and other shapes. The Speks come in all sorts of colours – and packs can be amalgamated if you want to go big.

WHAT’S THE POINT? There is absolutely no point, other than the process, which is strangely satisfying and therapeutic. Speks suggests using them at work – to “bring a little zen when you need it most”. Good luck explaining that to the boss.

$49.99 (pack of 512), getspeks.com.au
