Sorry Thanks Car Sign: Road Test

It’s a sign for your car, on which you can flash up a choice of two words: SORRY or THANKS. Why didn’t anyone think of this before?

How considerate: this could be you.
How considerate: this could be you.

WHAT IS IT? An LED sign for mounting in the rear window of your car, on which you can flash up a choice of two words: SORRY or THANKS.

HMMM... IT WOULD BE MORE USEFUL TO HAVE ONE THAT GIVES THE OPTIONS “TOSSER!” AND “OI MATE WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR LICENCE, IN A CHRISTMAS CRACKER?” Come on now, this is about promoting civility among drivers. “Our mission,” says the firm behind it, “is to make the road a friendlier place ... and promote positive vibes”.

WELL, THAT’S VERY ADMIRABLE. Yes. Although to be clear, they’re in America, where there’s always a risk of road rage escalating into an exchange of gunfire.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE WORD TO DISPLAY? Via a remote control that you mount on the dash; it has two buttons, S and T. That frees up your other hand for the simultaneous deployment of abusive gestures, should you wish to hedge your bets. (Disclaimer: this would require you to steer with your knees, which is rather frowned upon in police circles.)
