Skip MO/GO: motorised trousers, anyone?
They cost $US4500 - but wait until you hear what these trousers can do. It’s like something out of an episode of Inspector Gadget.
WHAT IS IT? Great news for lazy-arsed walkers! It’s a pair of motorised trousers.
GET OUTTA HERE! I know, it sounds like something from Inspector Gadget, but this is real: it’s a collab between outdoor brand Arc’teryx and a team of robotics engineers who met while working at Google X.
HOW DOES IT WORK? The trousers come with four carbon fibre cuffs that go over the top of your thighs and just below the knees; the cuffs are connected by a mechanism powered by electric motors.
SO THE TROUSERS DO THE WALKING FOR YOU? No, you still have to walk, but they provide a power boost, particularly when climbing – similar to how electric bikes work. And you can adjust the assistance level with a knob on the knee-cuff.
THE WEBSITE SAYS THEY’RE ONLY $US99 – WHAT A BARGAIN. That’s just the down payment. If you order them now, for delivery in late 2025, you’ll get them at the “earlybird discount” price of $4500.
VERDICT: I know what you’re thinking: Can I hack the software so they’ll make me dance like MC Hammer? Here’s hoping!
