Rosie Batty: seven years on, where’s she at?
Seven years after her shocking loss, Rosie Batty is out of the spotlight, taking stock of what happened - and what is to come.
It’s difficult to forget the moment in February 2014 when Rosie Batty fronted the media after her 11-year-old son Luke was killed by his father at cricket practice. She was eloquent in the face of unimaginable loss and went on to become the face of family violence as Australian of the Year and through personal advocacy work.
Now, seven years on, she is out of the spotlight, living quietly in Melbourne, taking stock of what has happened and what is to come. She tells journalist Fiona Harari that the Victorian lockdowns left her isolated as her army of supporters melted away. As Fiona writes: “Alone at home, Batty was forced to confront the question that has shadowed her ever since she became a childless mother: What will she do for the rest of her life?”
