Road test: Winex wine sipper

A wine glass that doubles as a prop for impromptu impersonations of a famous detective. Who doesn’t want one of those?

Winex wine slipper.
Winex wine slipper.

What is it? It’s “the new fun way to enjoy your beverage,” says Winex. As if drinking wasn’t fun enough already!

It’s a repurposed bong, isn’t it. Scout’s honour, it’s a wine glass. Although unlike a normal glass, you don’t put your mouth to the rim to drink; instead, you suck the contents through the elegantly curved, hollow glass stem. It’s a straw, essentially.

James Halliday would not approve. True. Your nose isn’t engaged so you lose a good deal of the olfactory experience. Then again, you’re hardly going to be chugging Grange from one of these.

Can you put it down? Yes, thanks to dinky little legs, it’ll stand up (only just, though) on a flat surface.

Anything else? The design lets you blow bubbles through your wine; the shape is also good for impromptu Sherlock Holmes impressions.

That’s a conversation starter at parties! Yes, if you’re all imbeciles.
