Road Test: TCL NXTWEAR G Wearable Display Glasses
The latest “smart glasses” have screens in the lenses for a private cinematic experience. But are they worth the price tag?
What is it? A pair of “smart glasses” with dual Sony micro OLED screens in the lenses, creating a field of view that’s the equivalent of watching a 140-inch screen 4m away.
So they’re like a cinema for your face! Yes. Only without the sticky seats, crinkling chip packets and idiots talking. You can also use them for gaming and watching YouTube, of course; they’re a plug-and-play thing.
How do they work? They connect to your device via a USB-C cable – this avoids the weight of a battery and wireless hardware; the audio comes through speakers in the arms.
Neat idea. Yes, and you can recline to your heart’s content. The glasses are lightweight but chunky, and the sound travels a little around you.
Anything else? Yes, the lenses are transparent – so you can enjoy a cinematic experience on the train, a plane, or even in a cafe! Everyone will think you’re a tool, but you can.
