WHAT is it?

A device for sharpening razors.

Why not just chuck the old razor and get a new one from the packet?
Well, that's what we've become accustomed to doing. It's crazy, though. You wouldn't bin a blunt pencil, would you?

True. So this will save you money?
It could save you heaps. Things have changed since the days when a bloke would shave by scraping his chin with a Bowie knife that he'd honed on the sole of his boot. The concept of "male grooming" sparked an arms race that has brought us razors with triple blades, ergonomic handles, suspension and moisturising strips. They're expensive, naturally - replacement heads for the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo, for instance, cost 16 bucks for a pack of four. (Is Mach 3 the speed at which Gillette is laughing all the way to the bank?) With the Razor Pit, you can at least make them last for many months.

How does it work?
It's simply a pad made of rubbery material. Apply a little shaving foam to the pad and rub the razor upwards several times, and that's it: the blades are cleaned and honed.

The verdict:
It quickly made an old, blunt razor sharp and serviceable. If this catches on, the razor companies will hate it.
