Road Test: Loving Earth organic raw dark chocolate
A CHOCOLATE bar that can't make up its mind whether it's a delicious snack or a hippy manifesto.
WHAT is it?
A chocolate bar that can't make up its mind whether it's a delicious snack or a hippy manifesto.
How so?
It's fully organic, gluten-free, vegan, Fair Trade and hand-made in Melbourne, using single-origin raw cacao (73%) from Peru. It's sweetened not with sugar but with "evaporated coconut nectar". Even the inner wrapper is made of plant-based fibre, so you can compost it.
What does "raw" cacao mean?
Cacao beans are usually processed (fermented, dried and roasted) to make chocolate. Loving Earth's beans are just as nature intended, man.
Tasting notes:
Grainy texture. Unusual taste. Not rich - it doesn't come on like a regular choc "hit" - but there's a nice mellow aftertaste to complement one's glow of piety.
Price: $7.90 for a 100g bar, lovingearth.net
