Road Test: Lacroix Lonestar Supersport
It’s an electric skateboard that costs seven grand. So what can you expect (other than a few broken bones, obviously)?
What is it? An electric skateboard that costs seven grand.
WTF? Well, Lacroix does offer less flashy models for less than $2000, but this is “the Ferrari of skateboards”, with a claimed range of up to 160km and a top speed of 60km/h.
Gosh, that’s fast. Yes, Lacroix advises you to equip yourself with full protective motorcycle gear – and a “hand bell” to warn people you’re coming. (Check local laws; some states ban these vehicles in public.)
Where’s the throttle and brake? In a hand-held wireless controller. The board has headlights and brake lights; a display shows battery level and speed.
What’s it like to ride? In the most aggressive mode, any touch of the throttle will spin the wheels and throw you into a bush. But the more gentle modes allow you to get the feel of it.
Verdict: With a bit of practice it’s an absolute hoot. Your inner child will be cackling! Until you come off at speed.
