WHAT is it?

A solution to that recurring problem of modern life: you’re on the go and your phone runs out of juice. This recharges it to a third full – enough to get you out of trouble.

So it’s a portable power bank. But what’s the unique selling point? Unlike most power banks, you don’t need an Apple white cable (or the Android equivalent); you plug it straight into your phone.

Design notes: It’s 1cm thick, weighs 40g, and is coated in rubber. It has a nice, quality feel. You pop open the top to reveal two plugs – a USB to charge up the power bank (which takes 40 minutes) and the jack that fits into your phone (Kogan has models for iPhones 4, 5, and Android).

Why is it called 3-in-1? You can also use it as a direct conduit between computer and phone, if you don’t have a charging cable handy. And it’s an 8GB memory stick, too. Sleek and multi-functional, it’s a bit of design genius.
