Road test: Hot-Can chicken soup
DON’T rip back the ring-pull and chug down the contents of this can too quickly.
WHAT is it?
An aluminium can with a pull-tab opening, like you see on beer and soft drinks. Only it doesn’t contain a cold, fizzy beverage; it’s full of hot, creamy chicken soup.
That sounds wrong on so many levels.
But you can’t deny the genius of it. It’s a self-heating can: to activate it you simply push a button on the base, shake the can for 30 seconds, let it sit for three minutes, then pop it open.
And?
It’s piping hot, salty and chickeny. It wouldn’t exactly get Matt Preston salivating into his cravat, but it could hit the spot if you’re cold and hungry and a little bit desperate.
What’s the correct procedure for consuming it?
If you’re caught short without a bowl and a spoon, you can simply chug it (carefully) out of the can. That feels very classy.
