Road Test: Hornit DB 140
Angry cyclists, this one’s for you: a bike horn that, at 140 decibels, is as loud as a jet engine.
WHAT IS IT? A must-have accessory for angry cyclists: it’s the “world’s loudest cycle horn”!
HOW LOUD? 140 decibels, which is “the equivalent sound of a jet engine”, Hornit says. A more helpful analogy: about as loud as the outraged yelling from a peloton of middle-aged men in Lycra as you overtake them on a blind corner on a steep uphill section, merrily honking your horn in mock encouragement.
THEY WOULD DEFINITELY APPRECIATE THIS THING. Yes. Hornet says the piercing scream of it is intended for “alerting drivers and pedestrians to your presence”, but really it’s going to be used to convey road rage, isn’t it? Handily, the remote trigger – positioned beside your thumb – frees up your other hand for the deployment of abusive gestures.
ANYTHING ELSE? It runs on two AAA batteries, and weighs just 94g.
LOOKS SLEEK, TOO.Yes, which is a bit of a pity, really. Is it just me, or would it be so much better if it looked like a supersized clown’s horn?
