Road test: 666 Vodka

THE exceptionally clean air and water around Burnie figure prominently in this vodka’s marketing.

666 is smooth and clean, with toffee notes.

YOU brought vodka! Nostrovia, comrade.

Ahhh, but this one isn’t from Russia. It’s 100 per cent Tasmanian.

Come again?

It’s distilled at Burnie on the northwest coast, using fermented Tassie barley and rainwater from Cape Grim.

What’s the selling point?

Purity. The exceptionally clean air and water in this area figures prominently in 666’s marketing story. It’s reflected in the minimalist bottle design, too.

Tasting notes:

Smooth, clean, with toffee notes. Delicious. You’d be happy to drink it neat, straight from the freezer.

Why the demonic name?

It’s a nod to the Tasmanian devil. They’re making the unusual provenance another selling point. And if Sweden (Absolut) and France (Grey Goose) can nick market share off the Ruskies, why can’t Tasmania?

$62 for a 700ml bottle, 666purevodka.com
