Panasonic PV6 Nagori: Road Test

You would expect a $799 shaver to be a bit flash. But this one’s motor boasts ‘advanced magnetic levitation technology’, no less.

WHAT IS IT? An $800 face shaver.

I MUST HAVE MISHEARD – I THOUGHT YOU SAID $800! Well, it’s $799 to be precise. But this is no ordinary shaver.

HOW SO? In the never-ending arms race of luxury male grooming, this is the hypersonic nuclear option: it has five blades, made of Japanese stainless steel that’s “nano sharpened to 30 degrees”, and an “ultra-fast linear motor” that delivers 70,000 cross-cutting actions per minute thanks to its “advanced magnetic levitation technology”.

IT SOUNDS TERRIBLY IMPRESSIVE. BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN? I’ve no idea, frankly. But doesn’t the shaver look lovely? It’s been created according to minimalist Japanese design principles, and fits into the palm of your hand. “It will look the part in any luxe bathroom,” the people at Panasonic say. (They obviously haven’t seen my bathroom).

ANYTHING ELSE? It recharges through a USB-C port, comes with a smart carrying case, and is fully waterproof; it can be used dry or wet, with gel/foam or without.
