Our final issue for 2020: a special year in review
Looking through the photos of 2020 for our special year in review I’m struck by a sense of disbelief. Look what we’ve lived through.
Looking back through the photographs of 2020 for our special year in review I’m struck, every time, by a sense of disbelief. To open the year: crowds huddled on beaches under burnt orange skies awaiting rescue from navy ships and military helicopters, then, months later, a lone shopper collapsed in despair on an empty shelf in the toilet paper aisle. Vacant streets, unoccupied offices, grounded jumbo jets, snaking Centrelink queues and perhaps the saddest sight of all – playground swings and slides wrapped in plastic like eerie, twisted corpses. Then come the medicos wrapped in protective gear, the border closures, the police patrols and the haunted faces of grandparents gazing through glass at family they can’t touch.
Just look what we’ve lived through. As we head off on holidays, the magazine team wishes you a very special, safe and happy Christmas with those you love. We’ll be back on January 23 with our first issue for 2021.
