THERE are many disturbing aspects to Private Veronica Wadley's story.
Not just that she was attacked on base by a fellow soldier, but how the Army then dealt with her as a problem, not a victim. This has been a recurring theme from complainants who came forward after the Skype sex scandal exposed the extent of abuse issues within the ADF - that the initial trauma was often compounded by the mismanagement of the victim.
The ADF says it is already addressing this problem and that cultural change is underway. Let's hope it continues. Many fine women and men have served with honour in wartime and peacetime and it's time this catalogue of abuse is relegated to the past.
